2010-2011 Education Programs

Las Vegas Natural History Museum

The Museum's education programs target Pre-K through 8^th grade using a variety of topics including animal characteristics, habitats, adaptations, classification and basic scientific methods and principles.  All field trip programs are aligned with the Nevada State Academic Standards.  Let us help you meet some of your curriculum goals.

You'll find valuable information about the Museum's field trips, outreaches and teaching trunk program.  Also, find out what you'll need and how to reserve your museum education program.

Reservation Tips

Before contacting the Museum for a reservation, please remember to:

• Check with your CCSD office manager and/or regional area ASC for transportation reservation deadlines
• Check holiday and testing calendars
• Have several alternative dates in case your first choice is already booked
• Make your reservation with the Museum at least three weeks in advance for scheduling your preferred programs, dates, time slots and buses

You'll need to provide the Museum with the following information to make your reservation:

• Your name
• Your school's name
• Approximate number of students
• Approximate number of adults
• Grade level
• How many classes
• Name of the program you are interested in
• Dates and times you are hoping to schedule

When you make your reservation, please make note of special gallery requests, gift bags or a visit to the Museum's gift shop.  The Museum may be unable to accommodate requests on the day of the field trip.

 CCSD Bus Transportation:

• Order your bus(es) through your office manager
• Email or call the Museum with your bus confirmation
• If receiving bus reimbursement scholarship, email or call with your school's cost center number

Your field trip is not finalized until a CCSD bus confirmation is submitted to the Museum and if applicable, a school cost center number for bus reimbursement scholarship.  Buses are usually scheduled through your office manager.  You should also be able to obtain the bus confirmation and school cost center number from your office manager.   

What to Expect at Check-in

• Buses may drop students off at the front or side of the building (pickup will be at the side entrance) Buses may need to drive around the block to park in the back parking loop
• Groups that arrive early will be directed to wait in Heritage Park next to the Museum
• Be prepared to leave labeled food and drink at the admissions desk, as they are not permitted in the Museum's galleries
• Provide us with the number of people for each of these categories:  students, adults (including teachers) and siblings.
• If paying by cash, please have the money collected for the entire group prior to arrival, for a speedy check-in and quicker start for your tour
• You may be asked to put your students into groups (Example of possible groupings, 80 students = 3 groups, 110 students = 4 groups) Each group will have a Museum Guide.

Programs at a Glance

 *Please note Early Explorers and Learning Safaris are approximately 1 hour long.  Science Sleuths and the Ancient Egypt Experience are 1 ½ hours long.

 *Admission and bus reimbursement scholarship are available on a first-come, first-served basis to qualifying schools meeting the minimum requirements.
