Artist Residency 2026 - 2027

The Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum (LVSNHM) is presenting Woven Throughout History, a multi-phase Artist in Residence Series centered on textile arts and the science of textiles. The residency will feature four artists, each aligned with a cultural heritage month: Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 2026), Indigenous Peoples Month (Nov. 2026), Black History Month (Feb. 2027), and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (May 2027).

Each artist will lead two hands-on, 2 hour workshops during their designated month and collaborate with the museum to create an online educational resource for LVSNHM’s website (approximately 3 additional consultation hours).

Workshops are designed for families, with a primary focus on K-3 learners. Proposals should align with National Core Arts Standards and emphasize age-appropriate, hands-on learning experiences.

Proposals should focus on how textiles function as both a technological process and a form of cultural expression, highlighting the use of natural materials (e.g. plant fibers, animal fibers, dyes) to communicate history, identity, values, and storytelling traditions.

Submissions are due February 28, 2026.

Ideal workshop proposals are "drop-in" style, allowing museum guests to drop in at any time to participate. Build an experience that is an hour long and can be repeated for multiple groups. Please use the prompts below to outline your lesson plan. The content for the two workshops must be different.
