Welcome to the Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum

Big news: after 34 years as the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, we’re stepping into a new era with a brand new name—Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum!

Why the change?

Simple: we want our name to reflect the full scope of what we do. Science has always been at the heart of our mission, and over the years, we’ve expanded our exhibits and programs to include even more hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) experiences. Our new name puts that commitment front and center, inviting the entire community to explore, experiment, and be inspired.

New Name, New Sign, Same Mission

As you arrive, you’ll spot our brand new sign proudly displaying our updated name—Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum—alongside a fresh coat of paint on the front of our building, giving the museum a vibrant new look.

While our name and appearance have gotten an update, our mission remains the same: to spark curiosity and provide engaging experiences in science and natural history for our community.

Image shows the freshly-painted front of the Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum that is now white and has orange and purple stripes in the inside. The new colorful sign shows the outline of a long-necked dinosaur centered in concentric circles. The sign reads, "Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum."

“As the museum marks its 34th anniversary, I’m proud to reflect on how far we’ve come—from humble beginnings to being named Best of Las Vegas 2024 for museums, our journey has truly been remarkable," says Executive Director Laurie Thomas. "With our new name, we’re enhancing our offerings to feature more dynamic science activities and exhibits for the Las Vegas community. We look forward to continuing to serve our community and inspire curiosity for years to come.”

To celebrate this exciting new chapter, we’ll be hosting an official ribbon cutting with the Henderson Chamber of Commerce on Friday, July 11, at 11:00am.

Join us on Saturday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a day packed with hands-on experiments, LEGO building, fossil digs (with take-home treasures), and creative coloring with the Clark County Department of Family Services.
